The grandparent's house in the film is actually located right near the road, unlike how it appears in the film. In the film, it appears to be at the end of a long palm-tree lined driveway. The driveway was filmed at a separate location and edited in. The garage behind the house, where the kids find Brinke Stevens handcuffed to the wheel of a car, is still there.

Hi, I'm from Poland, eastern Europe. thank you for information about location. this is my favourite movie from my childhood. I found Grandmother's house, but i'm looking palm-tree lines from the beginning of movie. do you know where is it? can you help me?
ReplyDeleteAlso located in the city of Redlands I would say near San Tomateo road
DeleteSomeone on the IMDB boards mentioned that it was a long drive-way near the far east end of Highland Ave. I could be wrong, but I believe they're referring to the long driveway at 31674 Citrus Avenue in Redlands.
ReplyDeleteBing maps will give you a better look at it (use Bird's Eye and zoom in). On Google maps, it looks like somebody has recently built a house right beside the driveway, and removed some of the trees from the back, making the line of palm trees shorter. So it probably doesn't look as desolate anymore as it did in the movie.
Correct and no it's not so desolate the new owners have done so so much to the property and the homes all has been upgraded and pretty much everything there is completely transformed from what it used to be.
Deletethank you so much. I found this location. Your blog is awesome.
ReplyDeletedo you know when I was teenager I saw this movie. In poland we were shortly after communism, the borders were open we felt freedom. when I saw the beginning of this movie I thought this is heaven. the palm tree line it is the road to heaven. It was in 1990.
In poland we have temperate climate. we dream about palm trees and sunny days around the year.
this movie is very underestimated. I had it on VHS. music is very terrible.
thank you so much for your help.
Sorry but information about the long palm lined driveway and the home being filmed at 2 separate locations is incorrect. The long palm lined drive definitely leads to this home in the film and the home is no where near the street. Believe me I would know because I worked at that home 5 days a week for 2 years for the now owners of that home.
ReplyDeleteFYI. That area in San Bernardino county California was at that time the citrus belt. Those long Stonewall drives we’re prevalent in that area when it was all citrus orchards and doubled as access roads and irrigation. After all these years, The mystery to me is Eric Foster. He was born in 1979 and died in 2010 at the age of 30. Nothing more seems to ever have been published about him. Nothing about his untimely death, Family, Or his short life. Curious!
ReplyDeleteI also found this to be strange
