Higgins Haven from Friday The 13th Part III (1982) was located on the Veluzat Motion Picture Ranch in Newhall, California. The lodge set was built from the ground up specifically for the movie. The F13 team returned to the location to shoot the opening of Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter (1984). Though the lodge’s slasher movie credits didn’t end with the Friday The 13th franchise. The location also served as the main setting for both The Zero Boys (1986) and Twisted Nightmare (1987). The accompanying barn is also featured in all four movies.

Sadly, the lodge set burned to the ground in 2006. Arson was suspected. However, the barn and the windmill featured in the films are still standing. Supposedly, an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation had used the lodge shortly before the fire. I could not find which episode it is featured in.

The person who burned Higgins Haven was a fan of the F13 franchise and posted the cabin mid blaze on the message board. It's still out there somewhere. he said he tried to make a fire in the faux fire place and caused the fire.
ReplyDeleteI've seen that picture floating around the net, and it's heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteIf I remember correctly, the crew of Friday The 13th Part 3-D had a similar issue, at least according to Crystal Lake Memories. I know they had some issue with the fireplace at some point, but I can't remember what happened exactly. I'd have to check the book, but unfortunately it's at home.
I think that area is sort of infested by bees, so they put a glass plate in the fireplace to keep the bees from getting inside. So basically, if you were to lite a fire, the smoke would just funnel back inside the house. Crystal Lake Memories mentioned a bee infestation, and there's a video on YouTube of a couple of fans visiting the site and one of them gets stung by a bee.
IS there anything left worth visiting?
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know, the barn is still there.
