Sleepaway Camp II (1988) & Sleepaway Camp III (1989)

IMDB                                 IMDB

The first Sleepaway Camp (1983) was previously covered in this blog (you can find the original post here).  But just this week, a video popped up on YouTube by AdamTheWoo revisiting the filming locations.  You can check out the video below:

You can check out AdamTheWoo's website by clicking here.  He has many other entertaining location visits uploaded there, including My Girl (1991), The Evil Dead (1981), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Jason Lives: Friday The 13th Part VI (1986), The Truman Show (1998), and more.

Moving on to the Sleepaway Camp sequels: Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers (1988) and Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland (1989).

At the beginning of Sleepaway Camp III, Angela runs down Maria with a large Mack truck and steals her identity.  In this scene, the truck is shown driving down Forsyth St in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, near the intersection of Mitchell St.  The coordinates below will take you to the location of the stoop where Angela is seen sitting when the bus picks her up for camp (see picture 4).  The alley where Maria is killed is right beside it, just to the right.  The white wall which reads "Angela Is BACK!" is just to the left.

Both Sleepaway Camp II and Sleepaway Camp III were filmed back-to-back at Camp Younts in Waco, Georgia.  For the second film, some scenes were filmed at Lakewood Studios in Atlanta (such as the interiors of the abandoned cabin where Angela keeps the bodies).  But a majority of both movies were filmed at the camp.  Rumors on set were that the camp was haunted, and a few of the cast and crew claimed to have had strange experiences.  The camp had been abandoned for years before the production got there. The camp was slated to be torn down, and bulldozers were on site during the filming of the third film, waiting for the production to wrap.

In addition to the Sleepaway Camp location video, another video was posted on YouTube this week revisiting Camp Younts from Sleepaway Camp II and III.  You can view the video above.  The video shows that a few of the buildings did survive.  All that is left of the main lodge is the chimney.  The swimming pool from Sleepaway Camp II is surprisingly still there.  The dock at the lake from Sleepaway Camp III has been removed.

The Wonder Years - Grandpa's Car

The recent film Hit And Run (2012) (which was released in theaters this past weekend) features the Rock Store, a location that was previously covered in this blog here.  This location was used as a diner in Friday The 13th: A New Beginning (1985).  It also made appearances in two season five episodes of The Wonder Years (1988).  Turns out it also appeared in a third season five episode of The Wonder Years titled Grandpa's Car.

The Rock Store is a well-known biker hangout, frequented by celebrities like Jay Leno, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Harrison Ford.  It has made several other on-screen appearances over the years, including the movies The Sweetest Thing (2002), Cobra (1986), and Panic In Year Zero! (1962).  In addition to The Wonder Years, it has also appeared in several other TV shows including episodes of Twin Peaks (1990), Dallas (1978), Charlie's Angels (1976), Monk (2002), and Falcon Crest (1981).  A few years ago, the location was the focus of a documentary titled Ed & Vern's Rock Store (2008).

Night Visitor (1989)

As mentioned in a previous post (here), Night Visitor (1989) was filmed in the same Venice neighborhood as The Slumber Party Massacre (1982).

In Night Visitor, Kelly (the girlfriend of main character Billy) lives in the same house used as Mr. Contant’s house in The Slumber Party Massacre.  This house is located right next door to the “slumber party” house.

On the same street, just one block from the “slumber party” house, is the large blue house used as Billy’s home in Night Visitor.  The house to the right of Billy’s was used as his neighbor Lisa’s house.  The upstairs window on the left side of Lisa's house is where Billy sees her being murdered by his history teacher.

On the next street over from the Slumber Party Massacre houses is the house belonging to Billy's devil-worshiping history teacher Mr. Willard.  In the film, this is where Kelly is held captive in the basement.  The house was built in 1916.

As mentioned earlier, Trish’s house (the location of the slumber party) is located about a mile from the school.  The house still looks the same as it did in the movie.  Just like in the movie, Valerie and Courtney's house is located to the left of Trish's.  Since filming, the house has received a green paint job.

In the film, the house to the right of Trish's belonged to her slug-killing neighbor Mr. Contant.  This house was also briefly used in the ending of Night Visitor (1989) as Kelly's home.  You can also catch a glimpse of the side of Trish's house in that movie.
