Deer Lodge

Ghostkeeper (1982) was filmed at the Deer Lodge in Lake Louise at Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. The movie was filmed entirely on location during December of 1980.  The lodge was built in 1921.  It was recently renovated in 2008, but most of its structure and rustic look has been maintained.  Director Jim Makichuk has expressed interest in returning to the location for a sequel / remake.

Confessions Of Sorority Girls (1994)

Confessions Of Sorority Girls

Brief update on a location that was already covered.  I spotted the Chateau Bradbury Estate in another movie, Confessions Of Sorority Girls (1994), which aired on Showtime as part of Roger Corman's Rebel Highway series.  The house was also featured in Ghoulies IV (1994) and The Stray (2000), as well as episodes of Bones and Tales From The Crypt.  The location was previously covered here, which includes screencaps from the other movies.

Don't Go In The Woods (1981)

Don't Go In The Woods (1981) was filmed in and around Heber City, Utah.  Most of the film takes place in the woods, but there are a few scenes that take place in town.

Center St & Main St
Center St & Main St

About ten minutes into the film, a police car can be seen driving by the intersection of Center St and Main St.  The stop signs have been replaced with traffic lights, and the area has been updated a bit in the 30 years since the movie was filmed there.  But the few buildings seen in the film appear to be relatively the same.

Less than half a mile down Main Street from that intersection is a location used for the movie Dumb & Dumber (1994).  The National 9 Inn served as the exterior of The Second Honeymoon Motel in the film, where Harry and Lloyd stop for a night.

Virginia’s house is located in the town of Hudson, Quebec.  It is located across the street from St. James Church and the adjacent cemetery.  The house still looks the same as it did in the movie.

House II: The Second Story

House II: The Second Story (1987) was filmed at the historic Stimson house in Los Angeles.  The house was built in 1891 and declared a Historic-Cultural Monument in 1979.  But House II isn't the only production to use the house.

Recorded Live

The house's interior was used for the anthology horror film After Midnight (1989) during the first story "The Old Dark House".  A different exterior was used in the movie.  It was also featured in two made-for-TV miniseries: Captains And The Kings (1976) and Testimony Of Two Men (1977).  The exterior was used in the short student film Recorded Live (1975), which used to air as a bumper on HBO.

The Bionic Woman - "Black Magic"
Pushing Daisies - "Pie-lette"
Mad Men - "A Little Kiss"

The house has also made several other television appearances, including a season two episode of The Bionic Woman (1976) titled "Black Magic", which guest starred Vincent Price.  It was also used in the first season of Pushing Daisies (2007), including the pilot episode "Pie-lette" and "The Fun In Funeral".  Most recently, it was featured as the home of Don Draper's ex-wife in the fifth season of Mad Men (2007).

The finale of Ghoulies IV (1994) was filmed at the Chateau Bradbury Estate in Duarte, California.  In the film, it was called the Hochstatter Mental Hospital (possibly a reference to Sorority House Massacre II (1990), another Jim Wynorski film).  The estate was also used as the home of the main characters in The Stray (2000).  It has also turned up in a few TV shows, including the Bones (2005) episode titled “Death In The Saddle” and at the end of the Tales From The Crypt (1989) episode “Lover Come Hack To Me”.

The ferry used in the movie runs from Brentwood Bay to Mill Bay in Saanich, British Columbia.  The ferry departs from the Brentwood Bay terminal, then arrives at the Mill Bay terminal (serving as the island Muffy St John owns).  The terminals and ferry have also been featured in a few other movies including Black Point (2002), The Mermaid Chair (2006), and Five Easy Pieces (1970).  The actual ferry that was featured in these films was recently retired and sold in 2011.  It had been in service since 1956.

Dunmora Estate

Muffy St. John's mansion is the Dunmora Estate.  It is actually on the same side that the ferry departs from, unlike in the movie.  The house is for sale with an asking price of close to $9 million.  The house is located right on the Saanich Inlet and it is pretty far back from the road.
