Lacey and Willy’s childhood home is located in La Plata, Maryland.  The house was built in 1893.  In 1926, a tornado hit La Plata and destroyed many homes in the area.  This house was the only house in the area that survived without any major damage.  In April 2002, another tornado hit La Plata.  This time the house was damaged, but has since been restored.

The main house and farm featured in the film is located in Bel Alton, right by the shore of the Potomic River.  At the time of filming, it was supposedly a tobacco farm which would make sense because it is located extremely close to Port Tobacco on the Potomic River.

  1. Even though the movie was filmed in Maryland, additional scenes were filmed in Los Angeles during post-production. These scenes John Carradine as a psychiatrist, in order to sell the movie on a name actor.

These scenes were filmed at 234 S Muirfield Rd in Hancock Park. This house is almost directly behind the Waxwork from Waxwork (1988).
