Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986)




Since the house from Poltergeist was covered yesterday, it only seems right to do the house from Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986) today.

Since the Freeling home was destroyed at the end of the first film, the family goes to stay with Grandma Jess.  This house is about 40 miles from where the first film was shot.  The house was built in 1913.

Spider Baby (1968) & The Silent Scream (1980)




Spider Baby (1968) was filmed at the Smith Estate in Los Angeles.  In the film, the house appears to be isolated.  However, in reality, the house is surrounded by the road.  Because of this, they could only shoot the house from certain angles.  Director Jack Hill revisited the house a few years ago for a featurette on the DVD titled The Merrye House Revisited.

The Smith Estate was also used in The Silent Scream (1980).  Even though it wasn't released until 1980, filming took place in March of 1978.

According to IMDB, the house was also featured in an episode of the TV series Falcon Crest (1981) (IMDB) titled Liars Anonymous.

The Nesting (1981)



The house used in The Nesting (1981) is the Armour-Stiner House.

The owner of the house while The Nesting was filmed filed a million dollar lawsuit against the filmmakers, claiming that they completely destroyed the house. She even claimed that crew members urinated on the floor throughout the house. I couldn't find any information about the outcome of the lawsuit though.

Since the movie was filmed, the house has received a pretty bright paint job and restoration. One of the previous owners (Carl Carmer) claimed the house was haunted. The house can be seen in Across The Universe (2007) (IMDB) during the scenes with Bono.

Wrong Turn 4 (2011) was filmed at the abandoned Brandon Mental Health Centre in Brandon, Manitoba.  The Mental Health Centre closed its doors in 1999 after over 100 years.  Assiniboine Community College has recently expanded its campus to this location.

The sorority house from Black Christmas (1974) is located in Old Toronto, Ontario.  The house is on a private road and director Bob Clark stumbled across the house by accident.  Actors Art Hindle and Lynne Griffin returned to the house in the DVD extra Black Christmas Revisited.  Unfortunately, this extra was included on the now out-of-print 2002 Special Edition and was not carried over to the current blu-ray / DVD release.

Community Centre 55


The police station in the film is pretty easy to find because the street signs are clearly visible in the film.  The building looks to have been an actual police station, as the building still says police station at the top.  However, it is currently home to Community Centre 55.

The dance (both in the prologue and in 1981) was filmed at the Inn Of Cape May.   The Atlantic Ocean is right across the street.  You get a good look at the exterior during the prologue in one of the first shots (seen above), following the archive war footage and dear john letter.

Southern Mansion

 
The dormitory scenes (where the shower scene and memorable final jump scare occurs) were filmed at a bed and breakfast called the Southern Mansion.  Reportedly haunted, it was the focus of a season six episode of Ghost Hunters called "Touched By Evil".

Emlen Physick Estate


Major Chatham's house, where the final showdown takes place, is the Emlen Physick Estate. The estate is a Victorian house museum, which offers tours. Like with the Southern Mansion, this house has its fair share of reported paranormal activity.
