The Immortalizer (1989), Sorority House Massacre II (1990) + more

IMDB                              IMDB

Across from the People Under The Stairs house and next door to the Twice Dead / Evil Toons house is the William J Washburn house, which also has quite the B-movie resume.

The house is featured in Sorority House Massacre II (1990).  Above you'll see four pictures from the movie.  The first two pictures are of the house.  The third picture shows a brief glimpse of the Twice Dead / Evil Toons house next door.  The fourth picture looks across the street, showing the People Under The Stairs house on the left and the house used as Orville Ketchum's house on the right.  Interesting to note: the house used as Orville Ketchum's house in the movie originally belonged to Oscar-winning Gone With The Wind actress Hattie McDaniel.

The house is the primary setting for The Immortalizer (1989).  The movie also utilized the neighboring homes, as seen in the previous two blog entries.

Camp Fear

The house appears in the opening scenes of Camp Fear (1991), an unofficial sequel to Cheerleader Camp starring Betsy Russell.  The house also served as the setting for both Spirits (1990) and Teenage Exorcist (1991), both of which starred Brinke Stevens.

The house also appears in Inner Sanctum (1991) and a few of the straight-to-video Witchcraft sequels.

Twice Dead (1988), Evil Toons (1992) + more

IMDB                            IMDB

Located directly across the street from the People Under The Stairs house is another Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument which was used in several B-movies, even making a few recent appearances.

The house is known as the Beckett Residence.  It was built in 1905 and declared a landmark in 1973.  The house was featured as the primary location in both Twice Dead (1988) and Evil Toons (1992).

Just like the People Under The Stairs house, this house also makes small appearances in both The Convent (2000) and The Immortalizer (1989).

It can be spotted near the beginning of The Convent as the home of the main girl, Clorissa.  It was used for the epilogue scene of The Immortalizer, as the new location of the laboratory.

The Attic Expeditions

The house served as the primary location for The Attic Expeditions (2001), which featured actress Wendy Robie from The People Under The Stairs at the location.

The house was also used as the primary setting of Lethal Eviction (2005), also known as Grayson Arms.  The movie featured a pre-Dexter Jennifer Carpenter playing twins.

The house (sporting a bright pink paint job) was also the primary setting in Running With Scissors (2006).  Most recently, the house makes a brief appearance in the Ashton Kutcher / Natalie Portman romantic comedy No Strings Attached (2011)

The interiors of this house were also used in Rob Zombie's Halloween (2007) remake.  The upstairs hallway and bedrooms of the Myer's house were filmed here, where Michael kills his sister near the beginning of the movie.

Delusion

Last October, the house actually opened it's doors to the public, serving as a Halloween attraction.  Attendees were led on a guided tour through the house for an interactive "haunted play" called Delusion.  The attraction ran for approximately two weeks, with 5 or 6 tours a night.

The People Under The Stairs (1991) + more

For the next three days, we'll be looking at three neighboring historic Los Angeles homes that showed up in various B-movies throughout the late 80s / early 90s.
First up is the Thomas W. Phillips Residence, which was built in 1905.  In 1991 it was designated as a Historic-Cultural Monument.

The most memorable appearance of the house was in Wes Craven's The People Under The Stairs (1991).  In the film, the house included many trapdoors and passageways in the walls, which were filmed in a studio.

The Convent

The house is also featured in The Convent (2000) as the home of Adrienne Barbeau's character.

The house was used in The Immortalizer (1989) as the home of a nosy neighbor who eventually comes to the aid of the main character.

Since the houses across the street have been used in many movies as well, the house can often be spotted in the background throughout those movies.  Two such films are Twice Dead (1988) and Running With Scissors (2006).

The interior of the house was used as the kitchen of the Myer's house in Rob Zombie's Halloween (2007).
Also, all three of the neighboring houses are supposedly featured throughout the direct-to-video Witchcraft (1989) series.  This house is used as the main location in the first film.
