Night Of The Demons 3 (1997)

While the previous Night Of The Demons (1988) films were shot in Los Angeles, Night Of The Demons III (1997) moved the action to Montreal, Quebec, which offered lucrative tax incentives.

This meant they had to find a new Hull House.  The location they chose was the historic residence of former Canadian Prime Minister HonorĂ© Mercier, who had died over a century earlier in 1894.  This isolated mansion is located on Pointe Saint-Louis in Beauharnois, Quebec, overlooking Lac Saint-Louis.  The house later served as the primary location of another horror film, Evil Breed: The Legend Of Samhain (2003).  The house has also appeared in the movies Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind (2002) and Love! Valour! Compassion! (1997).  Confessions must have used interiors only, because I couldn’t spot the exterior in the film.

The house was also featured in an episode of the kid’s horror anthology TV series Are You Afraid Of The Dark? (1991).  The episode in question is The Tale Of The Whispering Walls, which aired during season two.  In the episode, two kids and their babysitter stop at the house to ask for directions and find themselves terrorized by the creepy Master Raymond.

  1. Hi,

Love the blog! Great work! I live near the NOTD3 sets and thought I would contribute the gas station coords. It's torn down now and another, similar building is in its place. Before it was torn down, it was left for a few years in the same state it was in after the shoot with the dramatic roof. The only trace of the shoot was a sticker on the glass door that said "open from dawn till we're gone" which I never actually saw in the movie but the glass was blown out by the shotgun blast.

  2. Sorry, I got ahead of myself. It wasn't a gas station but a "Quick-E-Mart" in the movie. It was a gas station before it closed and then was used in the movie. Also, you can sorta see the text I referred to on the door as it was not shot out like I remembered. On the way out you can see a rectangular piece of cardboard with pictures of pretzels on it. The text is behind that cardboard and is visible as the kids are leaving.

  3. Wow, thank you so much for the info! I had actually searched for the "Quick-E-Mart" location back when I posted this. The roof was definitely distinct, so I figured it'd be an easy find, but I couldn't find it. Nice to have that mystery solved.

It was a total fluke I had stumbled across the house in Evil Breed around the same time. I found a lot of the information about the house from a Fangoria article on that film. There isn't much about the house on the net at all. And I happened to be searching for Are You Afraid Of The Dark locations at the same time I was searching for Hull House, so finding it in "The Whispering Walls" was another happy accident.

  4. Hey, my pleasure! I found your blog by trying to find info on the original Hull house. I looked at the historic Google Earth aerials and it's crazy how urban the location really was. Maybe we'll find out more about it in the new notd blu ray coming out next February from Scream Factory. Back to notd3, the parts where the van drives by were shot in the village of Beauharnois, but it is tough to pinpoint any particular business. There were a lot of movies shot in Quebec during the 90s. My wife once taught a French class where one of the students was one of the girls at the beginning of Are You Afraid of the Dark. Also, two of my wife's cousins were "Davids" in the closing scene of the Peter Weller movie Screamers which was shot near Joliette, Quebec.
